Water Activities in Kerry

With Caragh Lake outside our door, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, fishing and angling are all available.

Carrig Country House can arrange kayaking, sailing and canoeing. Cappanalea Outdoor Education Centre, just across Caragh Lake provides a number of water-based activities for young and old alike. Kerry provides the tourist with some of the finest kayaking in Ireland, with an abundance of waterways to enjoy.

The surrounding area has some of the best salmon and trout waters in Ireland and is an ideal base for fishing enthusiasts. With miles of rivers and a choice of lakes, you’re spoilt for choice.

The river Laune is very famous for the high numbers of sea trout, Brown Trout and salmon. The fishing is good during the summer and a lot of the larger fish are caught on the fly in the month of September. Night fishing is particularly good for trout and is more productive than fishing by day.

Lough Leane, also known as the lower lake in Killarney is the largest body of fresh water in the region and it drains into the river Laune. It has a large stock of Salmon, Sea Trout, Brown Trout, Perch and Eels, Tench, Char and fresh water herring. Enjoy a days fly fishing with a professional fishing guide who can give you all of the best information for the area.

Sea coast and deep-sea fishing options are only a stone’s throw away on around the Kerry coast… without doubt some of the finest fishing in Ireland.
