Time for a mini break to Carrig

This August, is the perfect time to enjoy a mini-break to Carrig Country House, in the heart of the Ring of Kerry. We are situated just minutes from the bustling town of Killorglin and yet when you drive down the winding avenue at Carrig you escape to an oasis of calm, nature, and wonderful Irish hospitality.

Carrig Country House is enveloped by the shores of Caragh Lake and the MacGillycuddy Reeks mountain range, a stunning location that sets the perfect tone for your country house retreat.

A family run establishment, you will be welcomed by owners Claire and Kevin who will host you throughout your stay. Carrig Country House was originally built in 1850 and this beautifully restored Victorian residence boasts 17 bedrooms, each decorated in period style with antique furniture.

Head Chef Patricia Teahan and her team have created an incredible dining experience at Carrig and as a result our Lakeside Restaurant is the proud recipient of many industry awards. The restaurant at Carrig is renowned for choosing fantastic locally sourced Kerry produce to create incredible dishes.

One of the many charms of an escape to Carrig is that you can enjoy a break filled with activities sports or you can slow down time and simply while away the hours in a great book, nestled in an armchair in our library.

As we are surrounded by the stunning Caragh Lake you can kayak on the lake with an instructor or enjoy a sunrise wild swim in the lake right from our own jetty. If you enjoy a leisurely stroll or an active hike, we are awash with choice right from our front door of fantastic walks that you can enjoy, as you take in the stunning Kerry vistas around each corner.

As Kerry boasts some of Ireland’s finest golf courses many of our guests ensure they book a round of golf on one of the many famous links courses or one of the woodland courses. There is a fantastic range of golf courses close to us here at Carrig and there is a course to suit everyone’s ability, from enthusiastic beginners to seasoned golfers with competitive score card.

Kerry plays hosts to some incredible festivals in August and amongst them is the Puck Fair, in Killorglin from August 10th to 12th. This is Ireland’s oldest festival and is a wonderful mix of pageantry, history, music and folklore and each years welcomes thousands of visitors to this family friendly event.
